Lollipop Chainsaw
reviewed by Jay Pipkin

Wow! I have to admit I thought this was going to suck, and I was way wrong. You play as Juliet Starling (No relation to Clarice). She's a cheerleader, valley girl, lollipop fan and professional zombie hunter. Not a strange cocktail in a world where we've had Buffy the Vampire slayer. She comes from a family of zombie hunters and they all have a skill or weapon of choice. Juliets' is obviously the giant chainsaw with hearts on it. No, I did not make that up and YES it IS different than the one in Dead Rising 2.

The person most involved with this game is James Gunn(Director of Slither), no complaints here. The only actor of note in this is Michael Rooker(Slither, Mallrats, The Walking Dead) whom voices one of the bad guys. Other than that it's all voice actors which is nice. Voice actors being pushed aside for hollywood types pisses me off. To everyones credit it sounds great and they all gave a top notch performances. Also on an audio note the soundtrack is both good and funny. In the "My best music" section you can edit the music too. Except for "Hey Mickey" which plays when you use your maxed out sparkle meter.

Gameplay is fun and with zombie medals you can unlock new attacks and combos. You should try to bunch up zombies because the more you kill in one swing; the more medals you get. This is called the Sparkle Hunter bonus. When I first heard the term "Sparkle Hunter" I had a beautiful image in my mind of a high powered rifle, the golded ticket from Last Action Hero, and a copy of Twilight. But alas no, it's simply a way to get more medals.

It's relatively hard to talk about this game without spoiling it, I literally laughed out loud several times while I played it. It's written well and the visuals are cartoonish in a good way. You can unlock several different costumes for Juliet. From a bunny suit to Ashs' clothes from Army of Darkness, my favorite is the t-shirt skirt and helmet. Yes yes, "You sick bastard"...get over it. It made me laugh. Online multiplayer does not exsist in a versus capacity(thankfully) but it does have a way for you to compare scores. So if you like a pissing contest, have at it Hoss. Me, I just enjoyed the story and gameplay. Isn't that the point?

Merits: It's fun, funny and meant to be campy. I just can't explain how without ruining it. If anything rent it.

Flaws: Sweet Jebus you will get sick of those "Hey Mickey" and "Lollipop Lollipop" songs. Sometimes the combos don't quite hit like you'd like them to. As usual my complaint with all fun games is that it ended sooner than i'd have liked.

All in all: 4 out of 5
