The Pontianak is a female vampire who often prey on men by either seducing or luring their victim with a sweet frangipani smell. I think it's said that if you're walking around in the middle of the night and a strong sickly sweet smell is present, a pontianak might be around.

It is said that a pontianak is 'born' from a stillborn female child, or if it died shortly soon after birth. She lives on blood to sustain her immortality, and usually prey on young men. Depending on the locality, some say that there is a nail on the back of her head, while others say that by driving a nail through her head you could return her to her human form (subsequently, removing the nail will return her into a pontianak).
